Eunice Maku Ayiku-Nartey
Eunice Maku Ayiku-Nartey has been passionate about sewing since childhood. Although she studied textile design and production at various institutions in Ghana and England, her heart remained in Africa. After taking several entrepreneurship courses in Ghana, Eunice launched Eunimak Fashion at Adabraka in 1993. With over 28 years of experience, Eunice provides training and leadership to many young people who have an interest in fashion and design.
Eunimak, by word of mouth, has grown from a local to an international brand through trade fairs and now makes custom made clothes for many distinguished ladies in the American, Zimbabwean and Canadian embassies. Eunimak Fashion specializes in European and Afrocentric clothing for ladies, gentlemen and children, as well as accessories such as tote bags and soft furnishing in home décor.
In relation to her Textile Mosaic, Eunice has a commitment to sustainability. She repurposes scrap fabrics into intricate textile art with the aid of her team. However, she sources fabrics from the market for some specific designs and colours. The natural world and Ghanaian culture are key sources of inspiration for Eunice’s textile art , for example, the vibrant colors in woven kente cloth from the Ashanti and Volta regions of Ghana and the rhythmic traditional dances like Adowa and Agbadza.
Since Eunice began her professional journey she has been lucky to have had the opportunity to collaborate on some exciting collaborative projects. She takes pride in all that she does and in the long-term relationships she has fostered along the process. She firmly believes that hard work eventually pays off, and with each passing day, she gets closer to reaching her goals. Explore her portfolio, and feel free to get in touch with any questions.
